DISASTER RECOVERY ZONE

Assessing the Risk and Likely Impact

One of the first tasks to be undertaken by the BCP Project Team is to prepare a comprehensive list of the potentially serious incidents that could affect the normal operations of the business. This list should include all possible incidents no matter how remote the likelihood of their occurrence. Against each item listed the Disaster Recovery Planning Project Team should note the probability rating. This is often done on a five point scale with '1' representing the highest probability and '5' the least probability.

Each incident can also be rated for potential severity level, again on a '1' to '5' scale, with 1 representing the most severe potential impact and '5', the least impact.

For complex systems and scenarios it is suggested that a recognized methodology and tool is used to support this part of the process.
